Libertad thrashed El Nacional in a thrilling match
Libertad achieved a resounding 5-1 victory over El Nacional in a match that was dynamic and full of emotions.
The first half was dominated by the home side. Libertad took the lead after only 2 minutes with a goal from D. Avila. Then, B. Caicedo extended the lead to 2-0 in the 37th minute, and N. Molina made it 3-0 in the 44th minute.
El Nacional attempted to react in the second half, but Libertad continued to be a very difficult opponent. C. Penilla scored the fourth goal in the 58th minute, practically sentencing the match.
However, El Nacional managed to pull one back in the 67th minute through G. J. Cortez Casierra. El Nacional tried to press for a second goal, but Libertad knew how to maintain control of the match.
Despite the victory, Libertad committed 7 fouls while El Nacional committed only 2. El Nacional had better ball control with 63% possession compared to Libertad’s 37%. El Nacional also had more scoring opportunities with 9 shots (2 on target) while Libertad only had 12 shots (4 on target).
The match was played at the Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa in Quito, under the direction of referee Augusto Bergelio Aragon Bautista.
