Eintracht Frankfurt Crushes Ajax in Europa League Round of 16 First Leg
Frankfurt am Main, March 13, 2025.- Eintracht Frankfurt dominated Ajax in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League Round of 16 tie, securing a resounding 4-1 victory at the Deutsche Bank Park. Referee Irfan Peljto from Bosnia & Herzegovina oversaw the match, which saw Frankfurt control possession (53%) and unleash 15 shots, 8 of which were on target.
Frankfurt’s goals came early and often. J. Bahoya opened the scoring at the 7th minute, assisted by H. Ekitike. M. Gotze doubled the lead in the 25th minute, thanks to a pass from R. Koch. Ekitike added a third in the 67th minute, assisted by Bahoya. While Ajax managed to pull one back in the 78th minute through K. Taylor (assisted by M. Godts), Gotze sealed the victory with his second goal in the 82nd minute, assisted by A. Knauff.
Despite Ajax’s 12 shots (5 on target), they failed to seriously test the Frankfurt goalkeeper. A strong defensive performance and clinical finishing secured a crucial win for Eintracht Frankfurt ahead of the second leg.
