Dundee Utd and Rapid Vienna Play Out Dramatic Draw in Europa Conference League
Dundee, August 14, 2025 – In an electrifying match held at the CalForth Construction Arena at Tannadice Park, Dundee Utd and Rapid Vienna drew in a game full of twists and turns and emotion until the last second. The match, corresponding to the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League, ended with a tied score after an agonizing penalty shootout.
Dundee Utd took the lead in the 25th minute thanks to a goal by M. Watters, assisted by W. Ferry. Watters himself extended the lead for the home side by converting a penalty in the 42nd minute, taking the score to 2-0 before halftime.
However, Rapid Vienna returned to the field with a new attitude. J. Antiste pulled one back for the visitors in the 63rd minute, assisted by B. Bolla. The equalizer came in the 78th minute, thanks to a goal by E. Kara, who received an assist from N. Wurmbrand.
With the score tied 2-2, the match went to extra time. Extra time was not enough to break the tie, so the fate of the match was decided in a dramatic penalty shootout. Despite a missed penalty by A. Fatah for Dundee Utd, the shootout extended until, finally, Rapid Vienna prevailed. The match ended with high intensity, reflected in the numerous yellow cards shown to both teams. Rapid Vienna dominated possession with 61%, while Dundee Utd held on to 39%.
