Thrilling Draw in the Cafetero Derby: Pereira and Once Caldas Share the Spoils
Pereira, Colombia – In a vibrant match held at the Estadio Hernán Ramírez Villegas, Deportivo Pereira and Once Caldas drew in a game full of emotions and controversies. The Cafetero derby, valid for the fifth matchday of the Primera A Clausura, left a final score of 2-1.
Deportivo Pereira took the initiative early on, with a goal from J. Largacha in the 3rd minute, assisted by S. J. Merheg. The home team dominated the first part of the match, showing solidity in defense and creativity in attack. However, Once Caldas reacted and began to exert pressure on the opponent’s area.
Tension increased with two yellow cards shown to Once Caldas players, J. Riquett and K. Tamayo, in the 13th and 18th minutes respectively. Controversy arrived in the 30th minute, when a goal by L. Sanchez from Once Caldas was disallowed by VAR due to an offside.
Once Caldas managed to equalize in the 40th minute with a goal from M. Barrios. The first half ended with two more yellow cards for Deportivo Pereira, Y. Quinones and E. Velasco.
In the second half, the game became more contested and tactical. Deportivo Pereira, with the support of their fans, sought to regain the lead. Yellow cards continued to appear, this time for Kelvin Osorio of Pereira. Finally, in the 76th minute, Y. Cabrera scored the goal that seemed to give Deportivo Pereira the victory, assisted by M. Perez.
Despite Once Caldas’ territorial dominance (56% possession versus Pereira’s 44%) and their more numerous shots (11 against 8), Deportivo Pereira proved more effective in front of goal. The referee of the match, Luis Gabriel Matorel Martinez, had a busy night, showing six yellow cards in total.
