Thrilling Cusco Derby: Deportivo Garcilaso Defeats Cienciano
Cusco witnessed a vibrant match at the Estadio Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, where Deportivo Garcilaso defeated Cienciano in a game full of intensity and twists. The match, corresponding to the third round of the Clausura of the Peruvian First Division, had fans on the edge of their seats.
Cienciano struck first in the 15th minute with a goal from Carlos Garces, assisted by A. Gonzalez, following an earlier yellow card to Garces in the 12th minute. Deportivo Garcilaso didn’t back down and sought the equalizer with insistence. Their efforts paid off in the final stretch of the first half, although not without drama. First, P. Erustes missed a penalty in the 43rd minute, but he redeemed himself by scoring the equalizing goal in the 45th minute, thanks to an assist from P. Zubczuk. The first half ended with a score of 1-1.
The second half was marked by controversy and excitement. In the 57th minute, a goal by Y. Celi was disallowed by VAR due to a previous foul. However, Deportivo Garcilaso maintained the pressure and found the winning goal in the 78th minute, with a great play by E. Naya, assisted by F. Arancibia. Naya, moments after scoring, received a yellow card, adding to the previous cautions to C. Beltran (33′), J. Lojas (62′), O. Nuñez (72′) and P. Zubczuk (90′). Cienciano also accumulated yellow cards for C. Torrejon (76′) and C. Garces (12′).
Despite Cienciano dominating possession with 66% compared to Deportivo Garcilaso’s 34%, it was the latter who demonstrated greater effectiveness in front of the opponent’s goal. Garcilaso generated 17 shots, of which 4 were on target, while Cienciano, with fewer shots (10), only managed to direct 3 on target. The match, refereed by Daniel Ureta, leaves Deportivo Garcilaso with an important victory in the Cusco classic.
