Thrilling Match in Iquique Ends in Incident-Filled Draw
Iquique, Chile – An action-packed and controversial match took place at the Estadio Tierra de Campeones this Saturday, where Deportes Iquique and Universidad de Chile drew in a match corresponding to the 30th round of the Primera División. Referee Mathias Riquelme had a busy night, showing a total of five yellow cards and one red card.
Deportes Iquique started strong, opening the scoring in the 4th minute with a goal by A. Ramos, assisted by M. Davila Carvajal. However, Universidad de Chile responded with a goal by M. Sepulveda in the 30th minute, after a play with no assist. Nevertheless, prior to that, in the 16th minute, a goal by L. Di Yorio was disallowed by VAR due to an offside.
The second half began with an early goal by B. Soto for Deportes Iquique in the 47th minute, putting the home team ahead again. The joy was short-lived, as Universidad de Chile reacted with two consecutive goals: M. G. Guerrero Pena in the 51st minute, assisted by L. Fernandez, and L. Di Yorio in the 56th minute, with an assist from J. Altamirano.
The match became increasingly tense, with several yellow cards shown to players from both teams. The situation reached its critical point in the 90th minute, when B. Soto from Deportes Iquique received his second yellow card, being sent off from the match.
