Curaçao Overwhelms St. Lucia in World Cup Qualifier
Willemstad – Curaçao showcased their football prowess by convincingly defeating St. Lucia at the Stadion Ergilio Hato in the second round of the CONCACAF qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. The home team dominated the match with 66% ball possession, translating their dominance into an offensive surge that culminated in four goals.
Forward G. Kastaneer emerged as the star of the match, scoring a hat-trick, opening the scoring in the 37th minute and extending the lead with two more goals in the 52nd and 57th minutes, assisted by K. Gorre and J. Brenet, respectively. Midfielder J. Bacuna sealed the victory in the 74th minute, assisted again by Gorre.
St. Lucia, despite their efforts, could not contain the Curaçaoan attack, registering only one shot on goal out of six attempts. Ball possession for St. Lucia was 34% against Curaçao’s 66%. The match was marred by a yellow card shown to a Curaçao player in the 90th minute.
