Cruzeiro Thrashes Vila Nova in Thrilling Copa do Brasil Match
Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais – Cruzeiro secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Vila Nova at the Estádio Governador Magalhães Pinto in the 3rd Round of the 2025 Copa do Brasil. The match, which started with a fast pace and early yellow cards for both teams (Romero for Cruzeiro and Henrique and Poveda for Vila Nova received yellow cards in the 6th, 7th, and 25th minutes respectively), was ultimately decided by the home team’s offensive dominance.
Kaio Jorge was the star of the show, scoring two goals; the first in the 34th minute assisted by Leonardo Romero, and the second in the 37th minute with a brilliant assist from Gabriel Barbosa. Cruzeiro controlled possession (60%) and created more chances (16 shots to Vila Nova’s 9). Although the difference in shots on target was smaller (4 for Cruzeiro and 1 for Vila Nova), the home team’s efficiency was key to their victory. Cruzeiro also surpassed Vila Nova in corner kicks (9 to 6). Referee Raphael Claus, from Brazil, officiated a match with a total of 25 fouls.
