Cruz Azul Clinches the “Clásico Joven” with a Hard-Fought Victory over América
Mexico City (D.F.) – In a thrilling match held at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario, Cruz Azul defeated Club América with a score of 2 to 1 in the 13th matchday of the Liga MX Apertura 2025. The match, refereed by Jesus Rafael Lopez Valle, was characterized by intensity and midfield battles.
América took the lead in the 31st minute thanks to a goal by B. Rodriguez, making it 1-0. However, the joy of “Los Azulcremas” was short-lived, as G. Fernandez equalized for Cruz Azul just two minutes later. The first half ended in a draw, foreshadowing an even more contested second half.
In the second half, Cruz Azul took control of the match and, in the 67th minute, I. Rivero scored the goal that would give them the victory, assisted by C. Rotondi. The match heated up, reflected in the yellow cards shown to J. Rodarte of Cruz Azul in the 40th minute and to S. Caceres of América in the 51st minute, as well as to I. Rivero at minute 76. Despite América’s efforts to equalize, Cruz Azul’s defense remained solid and secured the three points for their team.
With 55% possession and 16 shots, although only 3 on target, Cruz Azul proved to be more effective in attack. América, with 45% possession and only 4 shots, fought hard but failed to convert their opportunities.
