Croatia Overwhelms Montenegro in Zagreb with Commanding Victory
Zagreb, September 8, 2025 – Croatia secured a resounding victory over Montenegro at Stadion Maksimir, in a match corresponding to the group stage of the European qualification for the World Cup. The final score reflected the Croatian dominance, fueled by an overwhelming ball possession (75%) and a clear superiority in attack.
The first goal of the match came in the 35th minute, courtesy of K. Jakic, with a precise assist from L. Modric. Croatian superiority became even more evident in the second half when A. Kramaric extended the lead in the 51st minute, assisted by J. Stanisic. Despite Montenegro’s fight, the team’s hopes were severely compromised after the expulsion of A. Bulatovic in the 42nd minute, leaving the team with ten men for most of the match.
Montenegro’s misfortune materialized in the 86th minute with an own goal by E. Kuc. Finally, I. Perisic sealed the Croatian victory in the 90th minute, with an assist from L. Majer.
Croatia demonstrated its superiority in all aspects of the game, with 30 total shots, of which 12 were on target, and 7 corner kicks. Montenegro, meanwhile, only managed two shots, none of them on target. The match was marked by a high number of cards, with three yellows and one red for Montenegro, and one yellow for Croatia. German referee Felix Zwayer had a busy night at Stadion Maksimir.
