Intense Draw at Neo Química Arena Between Corinthians and Cruzeiro
São Paulo, July 23, 2025 – Corinthians and Cruzeiro tied in a hard-fought match at the Neo Química Arena, corresponding to the 16th round of the Brazilian Serie A. The match, refereed by Alex Gomes Stefano, was tense and marked by midfield battles.
Cruzeiro dominated possession with 53% compared to Corinthians’ 47%. However, although Cruzeiro attempted more shots, with 13 in total (4 on target and 5 off target), their effectiveness in front of goal was not enough to overcome the Corinthians defense. The “Timao”, on the other hand, generated 7 shots, of which 4 were on target and 2 went wide.
Tactical discipline was crucial, although the game was interrupted by numerous fouls. Corinthians committed 19 fouls and received 4 yellow cards (José Martínez, Charles, André Carrillo, and Rodrigo Garro), while Cruzeiro committed 17 fouls and received 2 yellow cards (Lucas Romero and Kaiki). The number of corners favored Corinthians, who earned 4 compared to Cruzeiro’s 2.
The match reflected a clash of styles, with Cruzeiro seeking to control the ball and Corinthians betting on quick transitions. In the end, the draw left both teams feeling they could have achieved more, but also recognizing the difficulty of overcoming the rival in such an even match.
