Palestino Completes Epic Comeback to Eliminate Independiente Medellin
Palestino staged an epic comeback at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Santiago de Chile, defeating Independiente Medellín 3-2 in the second leg of the CONMEBOL Sudamericana Round of 16, 2024.
The Colombian side took the early lead with a goal from Jhon Varela in the 41st minute. However, the Chilean side responded with force in the second half, scoring two goals in the first three minutes through Iván Roman (48th minute) and Juan Benítez (50th minute).
Palestino continued to dominate the game and extended their lead in the 90th minute with another goal from Jhon Varela, securing their passage to the quarterfinals.
Independiente Medellín fought hard to equalize the score, but the Chilean team’s dominance was decisive in sealing the victory.
Despite the defeat, the Colombian side showed a great level of play and said goodbye to the competition with their heads held high.
