Universitario de Deportes defeated Comerciantes Unidos 2-1 in a thrilling match played at the Estadio Municipal Germán Contreras Jara in Cajabamba, Peru, on February 9th, 2025. The game, part of the opening round of the 2025 Peruvian Primera División season, was officiated by Micke Palomino. Universitario dominated possession (60%) and shots (24 shots, 10 on target), while Comerciantes Unidos, despite having less possession (40%), fought hard and scored a late goal. José Vélez opened the scoring for Universitario in the 66th minute, assisted by Piero Reyna. Comerciantes Unidos pulled one back in the 90th minute through Marcos Sen, assisted by Alex Lecaros. The match was characterized by numerous fouls from both sides (12 each) and one yellow card for each team.
