Columbus Crew Secures Home Victory Against León
Columbus, Ohio – The Columbus Crew clinched a valuable victory at Lower.com Field against Club León in a hard-fought Leagues Cup group stage match. The game, officiated by Honduran referee Selvin Brown, was characterized by intensity and numerous fouls.
Despite the Columbus Crew’s possession dominance (54%), León stood firm defensively, although their play was constantly interrupted by fouls (17 in total). The Crew, for their part, committed 12 fouls and received two yellow cards, while León accumulated five cautions.
The match had an eventful start. In the 4th minute, a goal by M. Arfsten for the Columbus Crew was disallowed for offside. The first half passed without goals, but with a high number of fouls and two yellow cards for León players.
The second half brought the only goal of the game. In the 53rd minute, M. Arfsten managed to beat the León goalkeeper, assisted by A. Herrera, making it 1 to 0, the final score. Despite León’s attempts to equalize, the Crew’s defense remained solid until the final whistle.
The match ended with the Columbus Crew taking all three points and control of their group in the Leagues Cup.
