Colorado Rapids Edges Out LAFC in Thrilling CONCACAF Champions League Match
Commerce City, Colorado – The Colorado Rapids defeated Los Angeles FC 2-1 in a thrilling match at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, in the first round of the 2025 CONCACAF Champions League. Despite possessing the ball less (39% to LAFC’s 61%), the Rapids proved more clinical in attack.
The game started at a fast pace. At the 40th minute, Colorado Rapids defender C. Awaziem received a yellow card. The first goal came in the 48th minute, a penalty converted by D. Mihailovic. LAFC responded with more possession and created more chances, registering 14 shots (8 on target), while the Rapids had 7 shots (5 on target).
In the second half, Colorado Rapids extended their lead with a goal from D. Mihailovic in the 80th minute. However, LAFC pulled one back with a goal from A. Long in the 86th minute, assisted by D. Bouanga. The final score of 2-1 favored the Rapids, who showed great efficiency despite LAFC’s superior ball possession. Despite the loss, LAFC had more corner kicks (6 to 1). Both teams committed 10 fouls.
