Tijuana Crushes Pumas in Thrilling Match at Estadio Caliente
Tijuana, Mexico – Club Tijuana secured a resounding 4-2 victory over UNAM Pumas in an exciting match played at the Estadio Caliente. The game, corresponding to Matchday 9 of the Liga MX Clausura 2024, was decided in a first half that saw Xolos dominate completely.
The home side started with a flurry of goals. K. Castañeda opened the scoring in the 1st minute, assisted by S. Nicholson. Nicholson then assisted E. Álvarez for the second goal just two minutes later. Nicholson himself scored the third in the 37th minute, assisted by A. Gómez. A. Vega added a fourth in the 47th minute, assisted by K. Castañeda, solidifying the victory.
Pumas attempted a comeback in the second half, scoring two goals through I. Pussetto in the 64th minute and S. Trigos in the 90th minute. However, Tijuana’s lead proved too large to overcome.
Despite the win, Tijuana accumulated three yellow cards, while Pumas received only one. In terms of possession, Tijuana dominated with 53%, while Pumas held 47%. Tijuana had 10 shots (5 on target), while Pumas had 16 (6 on target). Pumas, despite more shots, lacked the effectiveness to counter Tijuana’s early dominance. The referee was Salvador Perez Villalobos.
