Pumas Defeat Queretaro in Tense Match at La Corregidora
Santiago de Querétaro, Mexico – In a hard-fought match at Estadio Corregidora, U.N.A.M. Pumas defeated Club Queretaro in a game marked by intensity and a high number of cautions. G. Martinez opened the scoring for the university side in the 14th minute, assisted by R. Lopez, giving the visiting team an early lead.
The match was characterized by a contested midfield and numerous fouls, leading referee Mario Terrazas Chavez to issue several yellow cards, starting with J. Caicedo of Pumas in the 29th minute and Jhojan Julio of Queretaro just before halftime. The second half continued in the same vein, with G. Martinez, J. Ruvalcaba, and R. Duarte of Pumas, and K. Escamilla and A. Zapata of Queretaro, all receiving yellow cards.
J. Ruvalcaba extended Pumas’ lead in the 78th minute with a goal assisted by A. Carrasquilla. However, the joy was short-lived, as A. Angulo of Pumas received a red card in the 81st minute, leaving his team with ten men in the final minutes.
Despite being a man down, Pumas managed to maintain their lead. Queretaro dominated possession with 57%, but could only manage one shot on target out of six attempts. Pumas, on the other hand, were more effective, taking advantage of their opportunities to secure the victory. The match ended with a total of seven yellow cards and one red, reflecting the intensity of the game at Estadio Corregidora.
