Atlas defeats Querétaro in a thrilling match at La Corregidora
Santiago de Querétaro, Mexico – In a vibrant match played at the Estadio Corregidora, Atlas defeated Club Querétaro 2-1 in matchday 16 of the Liga MX Clausura 2024. The match, officiated by Marco Antonio Ortiz Nava, was marked by intensity and numerous fouls, with a total of 29 between both teams.
Atlas took the lead in the 37th minute with a goal from Julián Orrantia. Querétaro tried to react and equalized in the 83rd minute thanks to a goal by Ariel Preciado, assisted by Kevin Escamilla. However, Atlas secured the victory with a penalty converted by Ulises Djurdjevic in the 90th minute.
The match was full of yellow cards: four for Querétaro (Preciado, Manzanarez, Escamilla, and Gómez) and three for Atlas (Aguirre, Doria, and Aguirre). Although Querétaro dominated possession (52%), Atlas showed greater effectiveness in shots on target (4 out of 10 shots, compared to 4 out of 17 for Querétaro), despite having less possession. Querétaro’s 8 corners did not translate into a greater advantage on the scoreboard. Atlas takes three crucial points in its fight for qualification.
