América defeats Toluca in thrilling match at Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes
Mexico City, March 2nd, 2025 – Club América defeated Toluca 2-0 in a vibrant match played at the Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes, corresponding to matchday 10 of the Liga MX Clausura 2024. The match, refereed by López Valle, Jesús Rafael, was characterized by alternating possession dominance, with Toluca holding 59% compared to América’s 41%.
Despite the lower possession, the Águilas were more effective in attack. Álvaro Fidalgo opened the scoring in the 6th minute, assisted by Alejandro Zendejas. The second goal arrived in the 51st minute, with no official assist recorded. América generated 12 shots, 7 of them on target, while Toluca had 11 shots, 5 on target. In terms of yellow cards, América received 2, while Toluca only received 1. It is noteworthy the large number of corner kicks in favor of Toluca (11) compared to América’s 4. Despite Toluca’s greater territorial dominance, América’s efficiency gave them the victory.
