Thrilling Draw in Cusco: Sport Boys Snatches a Point Against Cienciano
Cusco, Peru – A vibrant match at the Estadio Inca Garcilaso de la Vega ended in a 2-2 draw between Cienciano and Sport Boys in the ninth round of the Apertura of the Peruvian First Division. The match, refereed by Daniel Ureta, was a clash of styles, with Cienciano dominating possession with an overwhelming 77% and Sport Boys betting on the counter-attack.
Sport Boys surprised by opening the scoring early, in the 8th minute, with a goal by C. Lopez after an assist from C. Carbajal. Despite the lead, the visiting team was pressured by Cienciano’s constant attack, accumulating yellow cards for M. Almiron and S. Rivadeneyra in the first half.
Cienciano finally found their reward in the 61st minute, when S. D. Arias Fierro equalized the score thanks to an assist from B. Da Silva. The home team maintained the pressure and O. Noronha, in the 75th minute, put Cienciano ahead. It seemed that the victory would stay in Cusco, but C. H. Da, in the 82nd minute, with an assist from L. Urruti, achieved the final draw for Sport Boys.
While Cienciano dominated the statistics with 17 shots, Sport Boys was more effective in front of the rival goal. The match was also characterized by the intensity of the game, evidenced by the multiple yellow cards, three for Sport Boys and one for Cienciano.
