Cienciano Mounts Comeback to Defeat Comerciantes Unidos in Thrilling Match
Cusco, March 10, 2025.- Cienciano secured a 4-2 victory over Comerciantes Unidos in a thrilling match at the Estadio Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, in the fifth round of the Peruvian Primera División’s Apertura stage. The game was characterized by its intensity, expulsions, and a spectacular comeback by the home team.
Cienciano took the lead early with a goal from Jhon Estrada in the 3rd minute, assisted by José Romagnoli. However, Comerciantes Unidos responded with a goal from Luis Escalante in the 30th minute, assisted by Mario Sen.
The second half was even more dramatic. Comerciantes Unidos was hampered by the expulsion of Luis García in the 62nd minute and the constant yellow cards to their players. Despite this, they managed to equalize the score with a goal from Steven Gonzales in the 82nd minute. But Cienciano demonstrated their superiority in the final minutes, scoring three goals: one from Diego La Torre in the 88th minute, another from Carlos Garcés in the 90th minute, sealing the win in the dying moments.
