Goalless Draw in Santiago as Chile and Uruguay Battle to a Stalemate
Santiago de Chile, September 9th, 2025 – In a World Cup 2026 Qualification match, Chile and Uruguay played to a 0-0 draw at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos. The match, overseen by Brazilian referee Anderson Daronco, was marked by high tension and a fierce midfield battle.
Chile controlled possession with 51%, consistently seeking opportunities to attack. However, the Uruguayan defense proved to be resilient, preventing Chile’s attempts from resulting in goals. The home team amassed 16 shots, only 3 of which were on target, highlighting a lack of precision in the final third. The 8 corner kicks in favor of Chile also failed to break the deadlock.
Uruguay, on the other hand, remained compact and capitalized on counter-attacking opportunities. Despite having less possession (49%), they generated 6 shots, with half of them directed at the goal. Uruguay’s tactical discipline resulted in a higher number of fouls committed (14) compared to Chile’s 8. The referee issued one yellow card to each team, reflecting the intensity of the match. Ultimately, the score remained unchanged, leaving both teams with a single point in this important qualifying round.
