Chile Edges Out Ecuador in Close Encounter in Santiago
Santiago, Chile, March 26, 2025 – Chile secured a 2-1 victory over Ecuador in a hard-fought match at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos, in the 14th round of the South American World Cup qualifiers for 2026. The game, officiated by Uruguayan referee Gustavo Tejera, was a tight affair with Chile dominating possession (60%). Chile created more goal-scoring opportunities with 16 shots, although only two were on target. Ecuador, despite having less possession (40%), proved dangerous with 6 shots, two of them on target. A disallowed goal for Ecuador due to offside in injury time was a key moment.
