Chicago Fire defeats DC United in a thrilling encounter
Chicago, Illinois – The Chicago Fire edged out DC United 3-2 in a thrilling match at Soldier Field. Despite DC United dominating possession (58%), the Fire proved more clinical in front of goal. Christian Benteke opened the scoring for DC United in the 4th minute, but H. Cuypers equalized for the Chicago Fire in the 30th minute. Cuypers scored again in the 70th minute, putting the home side 2-1 ahead. DC United rallied, scoring a goal in the 90th minute through J. Murrell and missing a penalty, also in the 90th minute, taken by Benteke. The match was marked by its intensity, with a total of 27 fouls and four yellow cards. The Chicago Fire had 11 shots (4 on target), while DC United registered 17 (5 on target). Despite the visitors’ possession advantage, the Fire’s efficiency secured them the victory.
