Last-Minute Goals Secure Draw for Goiás Against Chapecoense in Tense Encounter
Chapecó, Santa Catarina – In a heated match at the Arena Condá, Chapecoense and Goiás played to a draw in a game filled with emotions and controversies. The home side, Chapecoense, took an early lead in the 15th minute with a goal from Rafael Carvalheira, assisted by Giovanni Augusto.
The match was marked by physical play and a contested midfield, reflected in the number of cards shown by referee Wagner do Nascimento Magalhaes. Chapecoense accumulated four yellow cards (Marcinho, Victor Caetano, Joao Paulo and Victor Caetano again before his expulsion) and one red card (Victor Caetano), while Goiás received two yellow cards (Anselmo Ramon and F. Barcelo).
Despite playing with ten men following the sending off, Chapecoense defended resiliently. However, Goiás, with greater possession (64% compared to Chapecoense’s 36%) and more shots (18 against 8), increased their pressure in the final minutes.
Goiás’ persistence paid off with a penalty goal from Tadeu in the 89th minute, quickly followed by a goal from Anselmo Ramon in the 90th minute, sealing the final draw. Earlier, Goiás had a goal disallowed by VAR due to an offside. The match, corresponding to the 14th round of the Brazilian Serie B, left a bittersweet taste for both teams on the hot night in Chapecó.
