Machida Zelvia Upsets Cerezo Osaka in Thrilling Match
Machida Zelvia secured a dramatic victory against Cerezo Osaka in a thrilling encounter at Yodoko Sakura Stadium in Osaka. Despite Cerezo Osaka’s 65% possession, Machida Zelvia proved more clinical, scoring two goals to one.
The match saw early yellow cards for both teams: Hideto Mae and Shogo Fujio of Machida Zelvia received cautions at 19′ and 26′ respectively. Shinji Kagawa of Cerezo Osaka was also booked at 52′.
Machida Zelvia took the lead at 49′ through Oh Se-Hun, assisted by Yuta Nakayama. Cerezo Osaka dominated possession but lacked cutting edge in attack, managing only 4 shots (none on target). Machida Zelvia, despite having less possession (35%), were more incisive, registering 16 shots, 5 of which were on target.
Ilija Dresevic extended Machida Zelvia’s lead at 78′, assisted by Yusuke Soma. Thiago Andrade pulled one back for Cerezo Osaka in stoppage time (90′), but it was too little, too late. Dresevic received a yellow card at the end of the match.
Machida Zelvia, with superior attacking efficiency and despite receiving 3 yellow cards, earned a deserved victory against a Cerezo Osaka side that, despite dominating possession, failed to convert it into goals.
