Central Coast Mariners Defeat Sydney FC in Thrilling Encounter
Central Coast Mariners secured a 2-1 victory over Sydney FC at the Industree Group Stadium in Gosford on December 8th, 2024, in a thrilling A-League match. The game, refereed by Adam Kersey, was characterized by tension and disciplinary issues.
Sydney FC dominated possession (60%), registered more shots (16 to 13), and earned more corners (9 to 2). However, the Mariners proved more clinical in front of goal. Despite having less possession and receiving three yellow cards, the Mariners’ efficiency in attack made the difference.
The goals came in the second half. Alou Kuol opened the scoring for the Mariners in the 58th minute, assisted by S. Roux. Sydney pulled one back in the 65th minute through P. Klimala, with the assist going to J. Lolley. Kuol then sealed the victory for Central Coast Mariners with his second goal in the 70th minute, assisted by Mikael Doka.
The match was punctuated by disciplinary incidents. Sydney received one yellow card at 45′ (R. Grant) and a red card to H. Devenish-Meares at 43′.
