Celta Vigo thrashes ten-man Villarreal in Balaídos
Celta Vigo secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Villarreal at the Estadio Abanca-Balaídos in a La Liga matchday 33 clash. The game was significantly influenced by the early red card shown to Villarreal’s Bailly in the 37th minute, leaving the Yellow Submarine with ten men. From that point onwards, Celta dominated possession and converted their advantage into goals.
The goals came late in the first half, with Fran López scoring in the 45th minute, and two more in the second half, courtesy of Iago Aspas from the penalty spot in the 87th minute and Brais Méndez in the 53rd minute. Celta enjoyed 60% possession, registering 21 shots (9 on target). In contrast, Villarreal, with less than 40% possession, managed only 4 shots on goal. Bailly’s red card and several yellow cards for both sides rounded off a game where Celta Vigo demonstrated clear superiority after the opposition’s sending-off.
