Celta Vigo Mounts Comeback and Dominates PAOK at Balaídos
In a match held at the Estadio Abanca-Balaídos, Celta Vigo secured a significant victory over PAOK in the second matchday of the UEFA Europa League group stage. The game, refereed by Croatian Igor Pajač, was characterized by Celta’s ball possession (62%) and a more incisive offensive game, although PAOK showed flashes of danger.
PAOK took the lead in the 37th minute thanks to a goal by G. Giakoumakis, assisted by G. Konstantelias, surprising the home crowd. However, Celta responded before halftime with a goal by I. Aspas in the 45th minute, assisted by O. Mingueza. The first half was also marked by two yellow cards for Celta, showing the intensity of the match.
In the second half, Celta Vigo came out with renewed energy and B. Iglesias put the home side ahead in the 53rd minute, with an assist from W. Swedberg. Shortly after, in the 71st minute, W. Swedberg increased Celta’s lead, this time assisted by J. Rueda. Although PAOK tried to react, Celta’s solid defense and control of the game prevented any comeback attempt. The match ended with a victory for Celta Vigo, who were able to take advantage of their superiority in possession and the effectiveness of their shots on goal (9 out of 15). PAOK, despite their initial goal, could not keep up with the pace and suffered from the push of the home team. The match ended with the score favorable to Celta Vigo.
