Turkey Crushes Bulgaria in Sofia with Offensive Masterclass
Sofia, Bulgaria – In a match corresponding to the group stage of the European qualification for the World Cup, Turkey dominated Bulgaria at the Stadion Vasil Levski with a resounding victory. The match, officiated by Portuguese referee Luís Godinho, was characterized by an overwhelming Turkish dominance in ball possession (78% compared to Bulgaria’s 22%) and a clear superiority in attack.
Turkey opened the scoring early, in the 11th minute, thanks to a goal by A. Guler assisted by H. Calhanoglu. However, Bulgaria responded quickly with a goal by R. Kirilov in the 13th minute, assisted by K. Despodov. The first half also saw yellow cards for R. Bozhinov and R. Kirilov of the Bulgarian team.
The second half was a festival of Turkish goals. V. Popov, with an own goal, put Turkey ahead in the 49th minute. K. Yildiz extended the lead with two consecutive goals in the 51st and 56th minutes, assisted by A. Guler and H. Calhanoglu, respectively. Z. Celik joined the goalscoring party in the 65th minute, assisted by A. Guler. I. C. Kahveci sealed the final score in the 90th minute, assisted by O. Aydin. The latter also received a yellow card near the end of the match.
Bulgaria fought hard, but could only generate 4 shots, of which 2 were on target. Turkey, on the other hand, had 16 shots, with 7 directed at the Bulgarian goal. Despite the 5 corners in their favor, Bulgaria failed to capitalize on them. The victory consolidated Turkey’s position in the qualifying group.
