Palmeiras Secures Victory in Hard-Fought Match Against Botafogo in Rio de Janeiro
Rio de Janeiro – In a tense match with shared dominance, Palmeiras defeated Botafogo at the Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos on matchday 20 of the Brazilian Serie A. Despite having 59% possession, Botafogo failed to convert their territorial advantage into goals. Palmeiras, more effective, capitalized on their opportunities and took all three points.
The first half progressed at an intense pace, although without too many clear chances until, in the 45th minute, Felipe Anderson, assisted by Vitor Roque, opened the scoring for Palmeiras. In the second half, Botafogo tried to react, but the Palmeiras defense remained solid. Referee Davi de Oliveira Lacerda booked A. Moreno and Murilo for Palmeiras, and Danilo for Botafogo.
Botafogo dominated possession with 59% compared to Palmeiras’ 41%, reflecting a more positional game. However, Palmeiras was more incisive in attack, although Botafogo recorded more total shots (13 against 8).
