Bolivia suffered a dramatic comeback from Paraguay in a vibrant match played at the Estadio Municipal El Alto, El Alto, on November 19th, 2024, corresponding to the group stage of the 2026 South American World Cup Qualifiers. The match, refereed by Andrés Matonte (Uruguay), was characterized by Bolivia’s greater possession (67%), but Paraguay’s effectiveness proved decisive.
Bolivia took the lead with a goal from E. Vaca Moreno in the 15th minute, assisted by R. Vaca. However, Paraguay reacted in the second half. In the 71st minute, M. Almirón equalized the match thanks to an assist from J. Enciso. Miguelito put Bolivia back in the lead with a penalty goal in the 80th minute. The expulsion of D. Gómez in the 83rd minute seemed to seal the match in Bolivia’s favor, but in the final minutes, J. Enciso scored in the 90th minute and sealed the 2-3 victory for Paraguay.
