Goztepe Stages Comeback to Defeat Besiktas in Thrilling Istanbul Match
Goztepe orchestrated a stunning comeback on November 24th at the Tüpraş Stadyumu in Istanbul, defeating Besiktas 4-2 in a thrilling Süper Lig matchday 13 clash. The game, officiated by Alper Akarsu, was a rollercoaster ride with the lead changing hands several times.
Besiktas started strongly, netting two early goals. S. Kilicsoy opened the scoring at the 3rd minute, assisted by J. Svensson. An own goal by M. Bokele at the 9th minute doubled their advantage. However, Goztepe fought back with two goals before halftime. M. Bokele scored at the 12th minute, followed by T. Altikardes at the 32nd, leveling the score.
In the second half, Goztepe proved more clinical. Two late goals, in the 82nd and 90th minutes, sealed their victory. D. D. Fofana and D. Tijanic, both assisted by Romulo, scored the decisive goals.
Despite Besiktas dominating possession (63%), Goztepe were more effective in front of goal, registering 18 shots with 9 on target, compared to Besiktas’ 11 shots, only 3 of which were on target. Besiktas received one yellow card, while Goztepe finished the game with one red card.
