Goztepe Stages Comeback Victory Over Besiktas in Thrilling Cup Quarter-Final
In a dramatic Cup quarter-final clash at İstanbul’s Tüpraş Stadyumu, Goztepe orchestrated a stunning comeback victory against Besiktas, winning 3-1. The match, officiated by Atilla Karaoglan, was marked by Besiktas’ early red card to Tayyip Talha Sanuç in the 36th minute.
Besiktas took the early lead through E. Muci’s goal in the 30th minute, assisted by Rafa Silva. However, the red card proved to be a turning point. Romulo Cardoso pulled one back for Goztepe in the 38th minute, levelling the score before halftime.
The second half was even more intense. Romulo Cardoso scored a penalty in the 79th minute and completed his hat-trick with another goal in the 81st minute, assisted by K. Gunter, securing the victory for Goztepe. A late goal disallowed for handball by Emersonn didn’t affect the final result.
Despite their numerical advantage for most of the game, Besiktas couldn’t match Goztepe’s efficiency, who had more shots on target (6 vs 4) and committed more fouls (13 vs 4). While Besiktas enjoyed slightly more possession (51%), Goztepe proved more clinical in front of goal.
