Benfica Crushes AVS in Dominant Display
Benfica thrashed AVS 7-0 in a match played at the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica in Lisbon, corresponding to matchday 31 of the Primeira Liga. Benfica’s dominance was evident from the first whistle, reflected in their 56% possession and an overwhelming number of shots on target (11 out of 21 total shots).
Goals came early and often. T. Araujo opened the scoring in the 8th minute, followed by V. Pavlidis (23rd minute) and Z. Amdouni (26th minute), who both benefited from excellent assists by S. Dahl. K. Akturkoglu extended the lead in the 40th minute, assisted by V. Pavlidis. In the second half, A. Belotti (71st minute) and N. Otamendi (82nd minute) sealed the victory with goals, with assists from Akturkoglu and A. Silva respectively. Benfica also enjoyed 9 corner kicks. AVS, with only 44% possession, managed 3 shots on target, but were significantly outmatched by the home side’s effectiveness and control. AVS received three yellow cards, while Benfica received only one.
