Bayer Leverkusen secures victory over Freiburg in hard-fought match
Leverkusen, Germany – Bayer Leverkusen defeated SC Freiburg 2-0 in a thrilling match at the Ulrich-Haberland-Stadion on Saturday, December 14th, 2024, in the 12th round of the Frauen Bundesliga. Despite slightly lower possession (49% compared to Freiburg’s 51%), Leverkusen proved more clinical in front of goal.
The match started with a yellow card for Freiburg’s Zicai in the 1st minute. Bayer Leverkusen opened the scoring in the 17th minute through a goal by S. Zdebel, assisted by J. Levels. Before halftime, Freiburg’s L. Karl also received a yellow card (43rd minute).
The second half continued with tension. Leverkusen’s K. Piljic was booked in the 51st minute. Bayer Leverkusen sealed the win with a second goal in the 90th minute, scored by D. Boboy. The match ended with a total of three yellow cards for Leverkusen (Piljic, Kogel, Shen) and two for Freiburg (Zicai, Karl). Both teams had several shots on goal, with Leverkusen slightly ahead (9 shots, 4 on target) compared to Freiburg’s 9 shots (3 on target). Corner stats were even (5 each).
The referee was R. Hussein in a match that, despite slightly more possession for Freiburg, was decided by Leverkusen’s superior attacking efficiency.
