China Edges Out Bahrain in Thrilling World Cup Qualifier
Riffa, Bahrain – China secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bahrain in a tense World Cup qualifying match at the Bahrain National Stadium. The match, part of the 5th round of the Asian third round qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, was officiated by Adham Mohammad of Jordan. Bahrain controlled possession (71%), registering 6 shots (1 on target), but failed to find the back of the net. China, despite having less possession (29%), proved more clinical, managing 7 shots, 3 of which were on target. A late goal in the 90th minute by Zhang Yuning, assisted by Wang Haijian, secured the win for the visitors. The game was punctuated by several cards, with China receiving two yellow cards (Abduweli Behram and Lin Liangming) and Bahrain receiving two (V. Emmanuel and W. Al Hayam, the latter a red card).
