Machida Zelvia Edges Out Avispa Fukuoka in Thrilling Match
Fukuoka, Japan – Machida Zelvia defeated Avispa Fukuoka 2-1 in a thrilling match at Best Denki Stadium on March 29th, 2025, in the 7th round of the J1 League. Despite lower possession (60% for Machida Zelvia vs 40% for Avispa Fukuoka), Avispa Fukuoka put up a strong fight.
The match started with an early goal by Daiki Okamura for Machida Zelvia in the 10th minute, assisted by Yuta Soma. Avispa Fukuoka responded with a goal from Takuya Ando in the 22nd minute, assisted by Yuji Kitajima, tying the score 1-1.
However, an own goal by Koki Tani in the 65th minute gave Machida Zelvia the lead again. In the final minutes of the match, Ken Sento scored the final goal to seal the victory for Machida Zelvia in the 84th minute, assisted by Sho Fujio. The match was marked by tension, with one yellow card for each team; one to Daiki Okamura of Machida Zelvia and one to Tatsuki Miki of Avispa Fukuoka.
Despite the loss, Avispa Fukuoka registered 12 shots (5 on target), while Machida Zelvia managed 11 shots (5 on target). Both teams displayed a fairly balanced offensive and defensive game. The referee for the match was Akihiko Ikeuchi.
