Austria Edges Past Slovenia in UEFA Nations League Clash
Austria secured a 1-0 victory over Slovenia at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna in a match of the 6th round of the 2024 UEFA Nations League B. The game, played on November 17th at 5 PM, was officiated by Glenn Nyberg from Sweden.
Despite dominating possession (72% to Slovenia’s 28%), Austria needed a hard-fought win. The goal arrived in the 27th minute through R. Schmid, assisted by C. Baumgartner. Slovenia offered little threat to the Austrian goal, managing only two shots, neither on target. Austria, in contrast, had ten attempts, three of which were on target.
The match saw yellow cards for D. Brekalo of Slovenia (16th minute) and K. Laimer of Austria (55th minute). In the dying minutes, Slovenia scored a late goal at the 81st minute through A. Gnezda Cerin (assisted by Z. Karnicnik), but it proved to be too little, too late. Gnezda Cerin also received a yellow card at the 83rd minute.
