Manchester United Thrashes Athletic Club at San Mamés
Bilbao, May 1, 2025 – Manchester United secured a resounding 4-0 victory over Athletic Club in the UEFA Europa League semi-final at San Mamés Barria stadium in Bilbao. The match, refereed by Espen Eskas of Norway, was dominated by the English team, controlling 72% of possession and creating numerous goal-scoring opportunities.
Casemiro opened the scoring in the 30th minute, assisted by Ugarte. Bruno Fernandes scored twice, once from a penalty in the 37th minute and another from open play in the 45th, also assisted by Ugarte. Athletic Club was hampered from the 35th minute onwards with the expulsion of Vivian and subsequent yellow cards, hindering their performance. Despite eight shots on goal, only two were on target. An offside goal disallowed for Garnacho in the 6th minute was the only other notable chance for the home side. The difference in possession and shooting accuracy reflected Manchester United’s clear dominance.
