Last-Gasp Winner in Arouca: Sporting Snatch Victory in Thrilling Finish
Arouca, Portugal – In a hard-fought match at the Estádio Municipal de Arouca, Sporting CP defeated Arouca in a game decided in the dying seconds. With 65% possession, Sporting dominated much of the encounter, creating 15 shots, although only 4 were on target. Arouca, with 35% possession, managed to generate 11 shots, 5 of which tested the opposing goalkeeper.
Sporting opened the scoring in the 35th minute with a goal by L. Suarez, assisted by M. Araujo. Arouca responded early in the second half, in the 48th minute, with a goal by I. Barbero, following an assist from J. Fontan. The game remained tied for much of the second half, with both teams seeking to break the deadlock.
Sporting suffered several cautions in the closing minutes of the match. In the 64th minute, J. Simoes received a yellow card. In added time, in the 90th minute, R. Silva, L. Suarez and M. Hjulmand were also cautioned, and M. Reis saw a red card. In the 76th minute, I. De Arruabarrena received a yellow card for Arouca, while N. Djouahra and J. Sanchez were cautioned in the 84th and 88th minutes, respectively.
In the final minute of the game, L. Suarez reappeared to give Sporting the victory, scoring his second goal with an assist from G. Catamo. The match concluded with Sporting celebrating a valuable away win. Arouca, despite the defeat, showed a good competitive attitude, creating danger in attack and defending solidly.
