Goal-Fest in Brussels as Anderlecht Claims Victory
Brussels – Anderlecht emerged victorious in a thrilling match against KVC Westerlo on the opening day of the Jupiler Pro League 2025. The game, played at Lotto Park and refereed by Simon Bourdeaud’hui, was a spectacle of goals and cards, keeping fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.
Anderlecht, with 48% possession, showcased their offensive prowess with a total of 25 shots, 10 of which were on target. Thorgan Hazard opened the scoring for the home side in the 19th minute, assisted by N. De Cat. T. Degreef extended their lead in the 37th minute, assisted by N. Angulo. However, Westerlo didn’t give up, and M. Frigan pulled one back in the 46th minute, assisted by J. Alcocer, right at the start of the second half.
Frigan struck again in the 58th minute, leveling the score with an assist from E. Bayram. Anderlecht quickly responded, with N. Angulo restoring their lead in the 65th minute. N. Saliba further increased the advantage in the 70th minute, assisted by L. Augustinsson. Finally, Thorgan Hazard sealed the victory for Anderlecht in the 90th minute.
The match was also characterized by intense midfield battles, with a total of six yellow cards issued – four to Anderlecht players (L. Hey, E. Llansana, T. Degreef, L. Vazquez) and two to KVC Westerlo players (T. Van den Keybus, K. Vaesen).
