Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya defeats Altyn Asyr in thrilling Ashgabat encounter
Ashgabat, Turkmenistan – Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya secured a 2-0 victory over Altyn Asyr in a thrilling match at Ashgabat Stadium on November 27th, 2024, in the fifth round of the 2024 AFC Cup group stage. The match, officiated by Ko Hyungjin of South Korea, saw Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya dominate in goal-scoring opportunities despite having less possession.
An own goal by Atayew in the 7th minute opened the scoring for the Iraqi team, putting the visitors ahead. H. Ahmed added a second goal in the 31st minute, assisted by A. Abdulnabi, virtually sealing the match. Altyn Asyr, despite holding 54% possession, barely created any real danger, managing only three shots throughout the game, with one on target. Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, with 46% possession, registered six shots, two of them on target. The match was characterized by discipline, with no red cards for either team. Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya received one yellow card, while Altyn Asyr received none.
