Almería Completes Comeback Victory in Thrilling Match
Almería, September 20, 2025 – In a match held at the UD Almería Stadium, Almería secured an important victory over Sporting Gijón, but not without facing moments of tension. The match, corresponding to matchday 6 of the Segunda División, ended with a score of 2 to 1 in favor of the home side.
Sporting Gijón surprised early on, opening the scoring in the 24th minute thanks to a goal by G. Campos, assisted by J. Otero. However, the joy would be short-lived. Despite their lower possession of the ball (32% compared to Almería’s 68%), Sporting remained firm until the second half.
Almería, driven by their dominance in possession and a constant siege of the opponent’s area, managed to equalize in the 55th minute with a goal by A. Embarba, assisted by A. Puigmal. The comeback was completed in the 85th minute when S. Arribas, also assisted by A. Puigmal, scored the winning goal for Almería.
The match was marked by a large number of cards. Sporting Gijón finished with two players sent off (G. Rosas and A. Corredera) and a total of seven yellow cards. Almería, on the other hand, received four yellow cards. Although Sporting tried to defend their initial lead tooth and nail, Almería’s superiority in the game and their greater number of shots on goal (9 compared to 5) ultimately tilted the balance in their favor. The referee of the match, Manuel Angel Perez Hernandez, had a hectic night in the Almerian capital.
