Al Sadd Edges Out Al-Wasl FC in Thrilling AFC Champions League Clash
Dubai, March 3, 2025 – Al Sadd secured a 1-2 victory over Al-Wasl FC in a thrilling Round of 16 AFC Champions League 2024 match at the Zabeel Stadium in Dubai. Despite Al-Wasl FC enjoying more possession (55%) and significantly more shots (21 to 13), it was Al Sadd who emerged victorious.
Al-Wasl FC took an early lead with a goal from A. Saleh in the 3rd minute. However, they had a goal disallowed for offside through Joao Pedro in the 33rd minute. Al Sadd received two yellow cards (Y. Atal 15′ and A. Suhail 73′).
The second half proved decisive. Al Sadd turned the game around with A. Al Yazidi’s goal in the 68th minute, assisted by A. Afif. Despite late pressure from Al-Wasl FC, who had 9 corner kicks, Al Sadd held on for the win. The match was a closely fought contest with 17 fouls committed between both teams. Al Sadd’s victory propels them into the next round. The referee for the match was Muhammad Nazmi Bin Nasaruddin from Malaysia.
