Al-Hilal Crushes Gwangju in AFC Champions League Quarter-final
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – Al-Hilal Saudi FC delivered a resounding 8-0 victory over Gwangju FC in the AFC Champions League quarter-final at the Al Inma Bank Stadium in King Abdullah Sport City on Thursday, April 25th. The match, officiated by Ahmad Alali of Kuwait, saw a complete domination by the Saudi team from the opening whistle.
Goals flowed early and often for Al-Hilal. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic opened the scoring in the 6th minute, assisted by Salem Al Dawsari. Marcos Leonardo doubled the lead in the 25th minute, with an assist from Malcom. Al Dawsari added a third in the 33rd minute, assisted by Leonardo. Aleksandar Mitrovic made it four in the 55th minute, assisted by Milinkovic-Savic. Malcom scored the fifth in the 79th minute, assisted by Mitrovic. Nasser Al Dawsari netted the sixth in the 84th minute, assisted by Matheus Kanno. Abdullah Al Hamdan completed the rout with the seventh and eighth goals in the 88th minute, assisted by Mitrovic.
Al-Hilal dominated possession (62%), registering 20 shots (11 on target), and earning 4 corners. Gwangju managed only 4 shots (2 on target) and had 38% possession. The Korean team received one yellow card. The victory gives Al-Hilal a commanding lead heading into the second leg.
