AFC Hermannstadt snatched a narrow victory over Politehnica Iasi in a thrilling match played at the Stadionul Municipal in Sibiu. The game, part of the Relegation Round – 8 of the 2024 Romanian Liga I, was decided in the closing stages. Despite a fairly even goal-scoring opportunities, with Politehnica Iasi registering 15 shots (7 on target) and AFC Hermannstadt 13 (9 on target), it was the home side that triumphed thanks to a goal by I. Stoica in the 75th minute, assisted by N. Antwi. The match was tense, with a total of 21 fouls (11 by Politehnica Iasi and 8 by AFC Hermannstadt) and three yellow cards, two for Politehnica Iasi (Boben in the 44th minute and Ispas in the 88th minute) and one for AFC Hermannstadt (Selimovic in the 70th minute). AFC Hermannstadt enjoyed slightly more possession with 54%, compared to Politehnica Iasi’s 46%. Despite numerous chances, the final score was a close 1-0 win for AFC Hermannstadt.
