Urawa Red Diamonds Stage Comeback Victory Over FC Tokyo
Saitama, Japan – Urawa Red Diamonds secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over FC Tokyo at Saitama Stadium 2002. The match, part of the 2025 J1 League’s 17th round, was a captivating contest right until the final whistle.
FC Tokyo took the early lead with a 9th-minute penalty converted by Marcelo Ryan. However, Urawa responded swiftly, equalizing through H. Ishihara in the 32nd minute.
The second half was even more dramatic. K. Endo put FC Tokyo back in front in the 68th minute, but Urawa’s attacking prowess shone through with two late goals. T. Matsumoto scored in the 80th minute, and G. Haraguchi added another in the 90th to complete the comeback.
Despite the defeat, FC Tokyo played well, creating chances, albeit with less efficiency than their opponents. Urawa dominated possession (53%) and had significantly more shots (22 to 10). FC Tokyo received two yellow cards, while Urawa received none.
The match, refereed by Yudai Yamamoto, was played in a lively atmosphere in front of a large crowd. The victory puts Urawa in a strong position in the league standings.
