Internacional Edges Out Club Nacional in Thrilling Libertadores Match
Montevideo, Uruguay – Internacional of Brazil secured a 2-0 victory over Club Nacional of Uruguay in a captivating match at the Estadio Gran Parque Central, part of the fifth round of the 2025 CONMEBOL Libertadores group stage. The game, officiated by Piero Maza of Chile, was a hard-fought encounter with both teams vying for the win.
Internacional’s first goal arrived in the 45th minute, courtesy of Ricardo Mathias, assisted by B. Aguirre. The second goal came in injury time, at the 90th minute, with B. Aguirre again finding the back of the net, this time assisted by Alan Patrick.
Despite Club Nacional enjoying more possession (51%), Internacional proved more clinical in front of goal, registering 11 shots with 6 on target. Club Nacional had 16 shots but only 3 were on target. Both teams received yellow cards: Victor Gabriel for Internacional and P. Calione for Nacional. The match was played in front of a large crowd at the historic Uruguayan stadium. The win puts Internacional in a strong position in the race for qualification to the next stage.
