Central Cordoba Edges Out Deportivo Tachira in Thrilling Match
San Cristobal, May 13, 2025.- Central Cordoba de Santiago defeated Deportivo Tachira FC in a thrilling match played at the Estadio Polideportivo de Pueblo Nuevo, corresponding to matchday five of the 2025 CONMEBOL Libertadores group stage. The match, refereed by Mathias De Armas of Uruguay, was marked by tension and expulsions.
Central Cordoba dominated possession (52%) and created more scoring opportunities, with 13 shots on goal, 8 of which were on target, compared to Deportivo Tachira’s 9 shots, only 2 of them on target. The Argentinian team opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a goal from Gastón Ignacio, assisted by Brian Cufre. Deportivo Tachira was forced to play with one man down from the 13th minute following the expulsion of Eduard Tamiche. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Deportivo Tachira managed to equalize in the 75th minute thanks to a goal from Brayan Castillo, assisted by Carlos Sosa. However, the joy was short-lived, as Central Cordoba regained the lead in the 76th minute with a goal from Guillermo Veron, assisted by Francisco Martinez. The match ended with a 2-1 victory for Central Cordoba, highlighting the Argentinian team’s attacking superiority. The game was also marked by the expulsion of Carlos Sosa in the 90th minute. Central Cordoba received 3 yellow cards, while Deportivo Tachira received 2 yellow cards and 2 red cards.
